Introduction
This Privacy Policy ("Policy") explains the information collection, use, and sharing practices of Birthday Calendar ("we," "us," and "our").
Unless otherwise stated, this Policy describes and governs the information collection, use, and sharing practices of Birthday Calendar with respect to your use of our browser extension and any related services ("Services") we provide.
Before you use or submit any information through or in connection with the Services, please carefully review this Privacy Policy. By using any part of the Services, you understand that your information will be collected, used, and disclosed as outlined in this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree to this privacy policy, please do not use our Services.
Our Principles
Birthday Calendar has designed this policy to be consistent with the following principles:
- Privacy policies should be human readable and easy to find.
- Data collection, storage, and processing should be simplified as much as possible to enhance security, ensure consistency, and make the practices easy for users to understand.
- Data practices should meet the reasonable expectations of users.
How Your Birthday Data Is Stored
Birthday Calendar is built to keep your data on your own device by default. When you add a birthday — a name, a date, and an optional birth year — it is saved using Chrome's built-in local storage on the device you're using. We do not operate a server that receives or stores this information, and we do not have access to it.
Optional Sync Across Devices
If you choose to turn on the "Sync across devices" option in Settings, your saved birthdays are instead stored using Chrome's built-in sync storage, which is tied to your Google account and managed entirely by Google. This lets the same list of birthdays follow you to any device where you're signed into Chrome with that account. We do not see, receive, or process this synced data ourselves — it is handled directly between your browser and your Google account, the same way Chrome syncs bookmarks or saved passwords. Sync is off by default and can be turned off again at any time, which moves your data back to local-only storage.
Export and Import
You can export your saved birthdays to a JSON file at any time from the Settings tab, and import that file back in later or on another device. This file is created and saved locally by your browser; it is never sent to us.
Information We Collect
Birthday Information You Provide
The only information Birthday Calendar collects is what you type into the extension yourself: names, dates, and optional birth years for the birthdays you choose to track. As described above, this stays on your device (or in your own Google account's sync storage, if you enable that setting) — it is not transmitted to us or to any third party.
Notifications
Birthday Calendar uses Chrome's built-in notifications to remind you about upcoming birthdays, based on the reminder settings you choose (3 days before, 1 day before, and/or on the day). These reminders are generated and shown entirely within your browser; no notification content is sent to any external server.
What We Do Not Collect
Birthday Calendar does not use analytics, does not track your browsing activity, does not require an account or sign-in, and does not collect your name, email address, or any other personal information beyond what you choose to enter as birthday data.
How We Use Your Information
Because birthday data is stored locally (or in your own Google sync storage) and never reaches us, we have nothing to use it for beyond what the extension itself does on your device: showing your calendar, calculating ages, and firing the reminder notifications you've requested.
When We Disclose Your Information
Since we do not collect or store your birthday data on our own servers, we have no birthday data to disclose to third parties, service providers, or anyone else. If Chrome's sync feature is enabled by you, that data is governed by Google's own privacy practices, not ours.
Legal Basis for Processing Personal Data
- Consent — any data you choose to enter into the extension, and any optional sync setting you choose to enable, is based entirely on your own action and consent, which you can withdraw at any time by deleting entries or turning sync off.
- Legal Compliance — we may need to act in certain ways to comply with applicable law, though as described above we hold no birthday data ourselves to act upon.
Your Choices and Data Subject Rights
Deleting Your Data
You can delete any saved birthday at any time directly within the extension. Uninstalling the extension removes its local storage from your device. If you used sync, you can also turn sync off in Settings, which removes the data from Chrome's sync storage for this extension.
EU Data Subject Rights
Individuals in the European Economic Area ("EEA") and other jurisdictions have certain legal rights regarding personal data. Because Birthday Calendar does not collect or hold your birthday data on our servers, most of these rights are already exercised directly by you within the extension — adding, editing, exporting, or deleting your own entries. If you have any other questions about this, you may email us at rentabextension@gmail.com.
Children
The Services are intended for users over the age of 18 and are not directed at children under the age of 13. If we become aware that we have collected personal information from children under the age of 13, or personal data from children under the age of 16, we will take reasonable steps to delete it as soon as practicable.
Data Retention
Birthday data you enter remains on your device (or in your Google sync storage, if enabled) for as long as you keep it saved in the extension or until you delete it or uninstall the extension. We do not separately retain copies of this data, as we never receive it.
Third-Party Links and Services
The optional sync feature relies on Google's Chrome Sync infrastructure. Birthday Calendar is not responsible for the privacy practices of Google or any other third-party service. We encourage you to review Google's own privacy policy if you choose to enable sync.
Changes to this Privacy Policy
We will continue to evaluate this Privacy Policy as we update and expand the extension, and we may make changes to the Privacy Policy accordingly. We will post any changes here and revise the date last updated above. We encourage you to check this page periodically for updates to stay informed on how we collect, use and share your information.
